To understand the difference between unique content and quality content in an article, let us consider an analogy. Assume that you are visiting a fashion-wear boutique. Wide variety of dress materials are displayed there, some on casual wear, some on formal wear, some in traditional style, some in trendy style and so on. As you look around the shop, do you find a few dresses that look quite out-of-the-ordinary, not the run-of-the-mill type, but very eye-catching, not comparable with “proven and existing” styles, but unique, with imaginative styling, color combinations, design patterns etc. You have never seen such a design anywhere else. You are extremely tempted to buy such a dress, for the “uniqueness” of it, but you may not know anything about the “quality” of it. After buying the “unique” dress, if you find that the color goes off after a wash, buttons fall lose, stitches give way at the joints or the cloth shrinks after a wash, then you know pretty well that the dress material, despite being unique, is not of “quality”. On the other hand, you may purchase a regular formal wear from the shop, perhaps from a not-so-popular brand, but you may find the material texture, color, stitching etc remaining excellent even after a few years of wear. That’s quality for you, even though the stuff is not unique. Now let us bring this analogy to writing web content writing. If you what you write is on a subject not very popularly written, or on a subject on which not enough information is available in the web, or if the point of view or explanation you throw on a subject is refreshingly different from anything else, the content you have written is unique. Such content can be with or without quality; that is a different parameter. In web content parleys, “unique content” is also considered in another angle. If what you write even on a not-so-unique subject is a something that is not written or published by you anywhere else or if it is not adapted in any way from your own related writing or is not written with extensive quotes from someone else’s work (to the extent of not infringing on copyright laws), then such a content may also be considered unique (or exclusive) by some websites. Whether writing on a run-of-the mill matter or on a unique subject, the quality of content is determined by several objective and subjective scales. Writing in good language free from grammatical and spelling mistakes, good sentence structures, proper formatting, presenting the idea in an easy-flowing, readable and enjoyable style, with a firm grip and knowledge on the subject are the some of the elements of quality in web content writing. Whether writing a unique or not so unique matter, the quality of writing is paramount for any author to succeed in the long run.
